 印度東部比哈爾邦（Bihar）一處鐵路平交道昨發生嚴重交通意外，一輛客運火車撞上一台載滿乘客的人力車，釀成21死。 美聯社報導，事件發生在比哈爾邦的薩姆拉鎮附近。當地鐵路警察機關主管稱，人力車的駕駛與所有乘客都在意外中喪生。死者中有7名兒童，6名女性。事發當時，平交道柵欄是開啟的，人力車在通過鐵軌時，遭到火車撞上，並被拖行約500公尺。（林奐成╱綜合外電報導）

18 killed in mishap at Bihar level crossing

Eighteen people, including five children, were killed when the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling was hit by a train at a manned level crossing at Sagauli in Bihar’s East Champaran district on Monday afternoon.
Officials, however, so far have confirmed 15 deaths. Railway authorities said though a gateman was deployed at the level crossing between Sugauli and Semra railway stations, he did not close the gate before arrival of the train.
The accident took place at around 4 pm when Muzaffarpur-Dehradun Rapti Express hit an overcrowded auto- rickshaw carrying 18 members of a family at gate no 169 C.
As the autorickshaw was trapped under engine wheels, no passenger could be saved.
Samastipur division railway commissioner Arun Malik said, “Prima facie, lapse is evident on part of the gateman. We are also trying to ascertain if there was lack of coordination from upper level.” The state government has announced ex gratia of Rs 1.5 lakh.
