一位美國海軍陸戰隊員駕駛的戰鬥機，於週三上午約10點半，墜毀於英格蘭東部，目擊者表示，當時機身如「火球」般燃燒。

該飛行員駕駛著F/A-18黃蜂式戰鬥攻擊機，不幸於英格蘭東部，隸屬美軍的萊肯希斯皇家空軍基地（RAF Lakenheath）墜毀。

這架戰鬥機原屬美軍六架從巴林（Bahrain）起飛的戰鬥機隊之一，在英國作短暫停留，再飛回美國加州聖地牙哥（San Diego）基地。

機隊當時正飛到距萊肯希斯空軍基地大約6英哩遠的農田上。

其中一架戰鬥機突然墜毀，機內一名飛行員喪命。

其他五架戰鬥機轉往蘇格蘭洛西茅斯皇家空軍基地（RAF Lossiemouth，Scotland）降落。

這起墜機意外起因未明，也尚不清楚罹難飛行員在失事前，是否曾將自己彈射出去。

An American pilot has died after his fighter jet went down in eastern England in what witnesses are describing as a ‘huge fireball’ at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

A U.S. Marine Corps pilot has died after his F/A-18 Hornet aircraft crashed near RAF Lakenheath, a U.S. Air Force base in eastern England.

The jet was part of a fleet of six U.S. fighter jets flying from Bahrain that had stopped in England for a brief layover before returning to their base in San Diego, California.

The fleet was flying over farmland approximately six miles from RAF Lakenheath when one jet in the fleet crashed on the ground below, killing the lone pilot inside.

The other five jets were diverted to RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland.

The cause of the crash is still unknown and it’s not clear whether the pilot ejected himself from the jet or not before he died.
