今天上午9點半左右，大陸西藏發生規模5.9地震，根據大陸地震台網消息，這次地震地點是位在喜馬拉雅山脈中段北麓珠峰腳下，震源只有10公里，屬於淺層地震，因此感受較明顯，連在四川的網友都表示感受到搖晃，目前暫時沒有傳出傷亡消息。

(IANS)An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Tibet on Friday, authorities said, adding that there were no reports of damages or injuries yet.
The quake struck the city of Xigaze, Tingri County, at 9.33 a.m., Xinhua news agency reported. The earthquake was at a depth of 10 km, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. The epicentre was around 150 km from the Sikkim border and less than 100 km from the Nepal border.
As per the National Centre for Seismology in India, the magnitude of the quake was 5.6 on the Richter scale, while the US Geological Survey reported 5.7. As per the reports from Nepal, a magnitude of up to 6.2 was recorded at a few seismological centres. Just five days ago, Pokhara in Nepal witnessed an earthquake of magnitude 5.
The Tingri county borders Nepal to the south. Most areas of the province belong to the Mount Everest National Nature Reserve. Tremors were reportedly felt in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. Parts of Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Bhutan, and China have reportedly felt tremors.
Nine firefighters and three fire trucks were dispatched to the epicentre. More than 100 firefighters and dozens of vehicles were on standby.
Stronger earthquake on cards
The entire Himalayan seismic zone is at consistently vulnerable to strong earthquakes. The Indian tectonic plate is continuously driving into the Eurasian plates around this region at a speed of 44 mm/year. Due to this motion of tectonic plates, stress builds up, and the earthquakes are triggered to release tension.
Even many parts of north, east and northeastern India are at constant risk of strong earthquakes due to this phenomenon. The maximum risk areas for high-intensity earthquakes are classified as Zone-V in India. The zone broadly comprises entire northeastern India, parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, parts of North Bihar and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The long-term seismological analysis in the region shows that the amount of energy getting accumulated in the subduction zones is not equally dissipated through the small and moderate earthquakes that we see right now. The energy has been building up, and the only relief is a strong earthquake.
Consequently, an earthquake of magnitude higher than eight has been projected in the region. To compare, the Nepal earthquake of 2015 was of magnitude 7.8, and it claimed over 8,800 lives. With the available technologies, it is impossible to predict when exactly an earthquake will happen. Scientists, therefore, urge the people and authorities to be prepared by strict adherence to the building codes.
As they say, earthquakes do not kill people; buildings do!
